Food for Families
Higher Purpose
Help end hunger in our communities. An estimated 1600 persons in Hickory County are Food Insecure, meaning they do not know where food will come from for some of their meals during the month. Many in our communities are struggling through hardship and unable to provide food for their families. The goal of Food for Families is to ensure that as few as possible go to bed hungry each night.
Overview
The Knights of Columbus are committed to helping end hunger through the Food for Families Program. Not only do our Knights work hundreds of hours at our local food pantry, Hickory County CARES, each year, our Council makes cash contribution each year as well. For every $500 or 1,000 pounds of food donated, the Supreme Council refunds $100 back to the council. Though in-kind donation of food is valuable, cash contributions go further since the average cost of food per pound for Hickory County CARES is 12.5 cents. Plus cash contributions allow our Pantry to procure the exact items needed by the local patrons seeking help.
